Non-Surgical Hair Restoration

Non-Surgical Hair Restoration

While most invasive hair restoration modalities yield the fastest results, they are often not the best, healthiest options. Other, non-surgical techniques can provide lasting effects that improve the health of one’s natural hair and skin around the hair. People experiencing hair loss, thinning of the hair, or generally unhealthy hair can revitalize their hair with these less invasive methods.

Microneedling for Hair Restoration and Rehabilitation

Micro needling is a procedure that utilizes a unique instrument to poke small in the surface of the skin to create minute trauma to the affected hair loss area. The body reacts to the micro-injury by triggering the rehabilitative areas for hair growth and flooding the area with healing cells.

How is the Recovery from Microneedling for Hair Rejuvenation?
As the least invasive option for non-surgical medical hair restoration, microneedling requires little to no downtime. There is mild pain during surgery and recovery but, with topical anesthesia and healing agents, it is a relatively simple, easy procedure.

How Many Microneedling Treatments are Required?
The number of treatments is completely dependent on the condition of the hair and scalp and how your body reacts to it. Someone who generally heals fast will see results more immediately than someone who does not. We suggest a patient starts with 3 treatments spaced between 10 and 16 weeks apart. For a more aggressive, non-surgical option, microneedling with PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) is recommended.

Microneedling with PRP for Hair Restoration

This is the more invasive of the hair growth and rejuvenation options we offer here at the MedSpot. This procedure combines microneedling with platelet rich plasma to encourage and aid healing of the hair follicles and skin. Platelets are one of three naturally occurring elements of the blood, along with red and white blood cells. The proteins in platelets are responsible for much of the healing in the body. By extracting the blood of this the natural healing agent, we are able to directly apply it to areas of the body that are injured or are experiencing degradation.

More About the Procedure

Microneedling with PRP is a 4 step process. First the patient will be numbed with a topical anesthesia. During the 40 to 60 minutes it takes for the anesthesia to take full effect, the patient will have his or her blood drawn. The blood is then spun in a centrifuge to isolate the platelets from the red and white blood cells. From this process, we are able to distill the platelets and create the PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) that is administered in the areas of need.

It is recommended that patients who decide to undergo this treatment still maintain any other methods that a patient was previously using. Many modalities can be used in conjunction with microneedling with prp.

Number of Treatments Needed for PRP for Hair Rehabilitation
Like microneedling without PRP, the number of treatments are determined based on the state of the skin and hair that is in need of repair. Some people react to the treatments within 2 weeks of the procedure, while some, unfortunately are unaffected. We recommend to start with a series of 2 to 3 treatments spaced 10 to 16 weeks apart to be able to accurately evaluate how your hair reacts to PRP. At the MedSpot, Dr. Reyes can help to decide if PRP for hair restoration is appropriate for your particular situation.
