Asclera®

Asclera®

One of the best things about living in Tarzana is being close to the beach. If you take your secret shortcut and hit the traffic just right, you can be there in under half an hour. Or if it doesn’t feel like a beach day, there’s always a pool for hanging out. Or at least that used to be great, before spider veins and varicose veins made you too self-conscious to wear swimsuits, shorts, or short skirts. Now you just wish you had an excuse to wear pants all the time and have no one notice or ask.

But you don’t have to live with spider veins or varicose veins. Instead, you can treat them with Asclera®, a sclerotherapy option that is both new and proven. With this simple injection, Dr. Michelle Reyes at The Med Spot in Woodland Hills can eliminate your spider veins or varicose veins. Since 1997, Dr. Michelle Reyes has been helping people in the Calabasas area to live better lives. Now she can help you decide if Asclera® is the best way for you to eliminate your spider veins or varicose veins.

What Asclera® Treats

Asclera® is a sclerotherapy treatment that can be used to treat two types of veins in your legs:

  • Uncomplicated spider veins
  • Uncomplicated small varicose veins

Spider veins are defined as very small varicose veins, less than 1/25th of an inch in diameter, about the width of a sharpened pencil tip. Small varicose veins might be three times as large and are sometimes called feeder veins or reticular veins. In either case, the veins might swell because of blood pooling in them.

Uncomplicated varicose veins aren’t just a cosmetic concern. They might be painful, cause heaviness in your legs, throb, or cause cramps. If you have these other symptoms, you might still be able to get relief with Asclera®. Complicated varicose veins usually have skin changes, such as inflammation, rashes, and bleeding. We can evaluate your veins and let you know if you have complications.

Asclera®: An Effective Sclerotherapy Option

Approved in 2010, Asclera® is a relatively new sclerotherapy option in the U.S. However, it has a long service record overseas. It’s been used in Europe for over 50 years.

Asclera® works like other sclerotherapy solutions. When injected into the target veins, it causes the vein to close. The blood inside clots. Once closed off, the body begins to absorb the vein. It also grows replacement veins to ensure your body retains adequate blood flow.

Treatment doesn’t take long, about 15-30 minutes, and you don’t have to take any time off from work. You can resume most normal daily activities afterward. We’ll give you compression socks to wear after treatment. We encourage walking because it helps keep the blood flowing. However, it’s best not to engage in vigorous exercise after your injection.

Veins will disappear a few weeks to a few months after treatment. How long it takes depends on the size of the veins and your physiology.

We can inject multiple veins during one treatment session, but we might not get all the veins you want at once. In that case, you’ll have to return for future treatments to get rid of some veins.

Benefits of Asclera®

There are other treatment options for vein treatment, but Dr. Michelle Reyes at The Med Spot in Woodland Hills uses Asclera® because it offers many benefits, including:

  • Less discomfort
  • High purity
  • High satisfaction rate

Asclera® differs from some other sclerotherapy compounds because it comes blended with an anesthetic. This reduces discomfort from your injection and ensures you always have the right balance of anesthesia.

Tight quality controls and strict manufacturing standards are the hallmarks of Merz Aesthetics. This ensures high purity levels for Asclera®, reducing the risk of complications related to the medication.

The purity, comfort, and effectiveness of Asclera® mean it has a very high satisfaction rate. In initial clinical studies, 88% of patients said they were satisfied or very satisfied with their Asclera® treatment. Even more compelling, Asclera® has a 100% “Worth It” rating on Realself.com, where actual patients compare the cost and benefit of cosmetic treatments.

However, it might not be right for everyone. You can see our sclerotherapy page for alternatives.
