GentleMax Pro Laser™

GentleMax Pro™

Are you considering a cosmetic laser treatment like laser hair removal, vein treatment, or removal of skin lesions like port wine stains? If so, it’s important to check the equipment the practice uses before deciding which practice to use. While a laser is only a tool, it’s a powerful tool, and the right tool can make a big difference in your results.

At The Med Spot in Woodland Hills, Dr. Michelle Reyes is proud to use the GentleMax Pro™, often considered the gold standard for laser hair removal, but also a powerful, versatile laser for a wide range of treatments.

What GentleMax Pro™ Can Do for You

One of the benefits of GentleMax Pro™ is that it’s an incredibly versatile laser. It has two different lasers included, an alexandrite laser and an Nd:YAG laser, each with its own wavelength. These different lasers, combined with a wide range of spot sizes can be effective in many conditions. We often use GentleMax Pro™ for:

  • Laser hair removal
  • Razor bumps (pseudofolliculitis barbae)
  • Diffuse redness
  • Bright red birthmark (hemangioma)
  • Vascular lesions (red or purple marks on the skin)
  • Pigmented lesions (brown or black marks on the skin)
  • Visible veins on legs
  • Spider veins (telangiectasia)
  • Nail fungus (onychomycosis)
  • Venous lake (collection of blood under the skin)
  • Port-wine stains
  • Wrinkles

The two different laser wavelengths mean that we can target most colors and types of hair on people of any skin tone. White (colorless) hair is not susceptible to laser energy, so laser hair removal must be done before your hair turns gray-white. Because one of the lasers is in the infrared range (Nd:YAG wavelength 1064mm), it can even distinguish between hair and skin that seem the same color to the human eye. This allows this wavelength to treat very dark skin tones, which is a category of patients that can be easily burned if not treated with the proper wavelengths.

The GentleMax Pro™ is effective at improving the appearance of skin affected by either vascular lesions (those caused by blood-like hemangioma) and pigmented lesions (those caused by melanin, like liver spots). It can penetrate deep into the skin to reach tissues that other lasers can’t affect.

This versatility is just one of GentleMax’s many benefits.

Fast, Precise, Effective Treatment

As we mentioned above, the GentleMax Pro™ uses two different types of lasers to target different types of skin lesions and other cosmetic concerns. But it also can use a wide range of spot sizes. It can focus on a small circle, about 1/16th of an inch in diameter, or a large circle about an inch in diameter.

The small circle lets us precisely target specific areas for treatment. The larger circle lets us treat larger areas faster. However, the larger circle also delivers more laser energy to a region. This can help the treatment be more effective as well as faster. It gives us the ability to control the laser energy even more accurately to minimize discomfort and side effects.

Fast treatment makes the GentleMax Pro™ a perfect option for people with large, dark lesions, or those who want to treat larger areas such as laser hair removal for the back, chest, and/or legs.

Cool, Comfortable Treatment

One potential problem with any kind of laser treatment is that it can make your skin hot. The laser energy gets turned into heat by the “chromophore,” which is the colored tissue to be treated, like a hair follicle. This heat can then spread to the adjacent skin and cause a burn. This means that once the skin starts to get hot, treatment has to pause until the skin cools down.

GentleMax Pro™ helps avoid this problem with its Dynamic Cooling Device™. This device cools your skin around the laser pulses. The computer-controlled cooling is designed to directly counter the heat delivered by the laser. As the laser energy increases, so does the cooling. This prevents the buildup of heat in the skin as a whole so we don’t have to slow treatment down. Instead, we can focus more on the laser treatment to get your treatment completed faster.

And at the same time, you won’t experience as much heat. You won’t get a burning sensation — your skin can stay cool. With cool skin, you’re more comfortable and there will be fewer complications, like redness, peeling, and more.
