Botox – What you need to Know

Botox Cosmetic is the brand name of an injectable treatment, and is used as one of the United State’s most common non-surgical procedures. Botox injections treat and prevent wrinkles, in addition to helping address and prevent signs of aging in the face and body. Key areas for Botox injections are forehead, around the eyes, and between the eyebrows (as specified by the FDA). It can also be used to help address common concerns in other areas of the face and body. Whether you’re in your 20’s or beyond the age of 60, Botox treatments can help you look and feel refreshed and youthful.

What is Botox? Years of research and body chemistry. Botox is a purified protein derived from the Clostridium Botulinum bacterium. The use of Botox as a cosmetic treatment was pioneered by Dr. Jean Carruthers, who has a degree as an ophthalmologist just like our very own Dr. Michelle Reyes. Technically Botox is considered a medication. Botox acts on a natural chemical in the body (acetylcholine) to result in relaxing muscle activity. We prefer to call Botox a neuromodulator because of how it works to soften muscle movement & lessen the appearance of wrinkles with time. Botox is backed by more than 16 years of published scientific research studies and is produced with the highest quality manufacturing process. Botox treatments are minimally invasive, safe, and effective with minimal side effects.

How much Botox is needed?

Quantity, Frequency, Feel. The amount of botox needed varies by person and treatment area. We prefer to individualize each treatment and develop a tailored plan based on your needs. Discussing budget and expectations is an important part of the treatment experience we address with all patients, new and existing. We suggest most patients receive Botox every three to 4 months. Everyone is different, at the Med Spot we love to talk about treatment options best suited to your unique needs and desired outcome.

Why all the buzz about Botox?

Botox is about self-care. The skin is the largest organ in the human body. Botox treatments go hand-in-hand with taking care of your skin and Self. Botox treatments can help improve symmetry to the face and optimize the appearance of the neck and chest. If you sweat too much, Botox injections can help with that too. Let’s have a personalized conversation focused on your needs.
